Staff spotlight: Alice Arnott

If I’m honest, I didn’t initially choose marketing as a career – 14 years ago my then manager spotted my potential and suggested I move into his marketing team. From there I never looked back!

I’ve always loved promoting a brand and its products, either in person at events or through interesting communications and promotions.

I’ve been lucky enough to work across many industries and the public sector and not only for small, local businesses but also large international brands such as Group Lotus and TROX. Whilst working and gaining valuable ‘real life’ experience, I backed up my knowledge with CIM qualifications. I love the variety of marketing and the fact that it works for any business; its just about finding the right mix. You can also choose to keep your career wide-ranging or focused into certain disciplines. Until I joined Smash Marketing, I had worked mainly client side in communications, including events, content and social media. My digital knowledge was good, but not in depth and its been a steep learning curve for some aspects!

Working in an agency is great because you work with such a variety of clients and industries. It’s not always easy to juggle multiple priorities, but we’ve got a great team and everyone pulls together.

Being naturally competitive, the challenge of SEO keeps me on the ball. I love finding the best ways to not only raise a company’s online profile but to keeping them ranking well. It’s creative, analytical, problem solving and thinking fast and being patient all rolled into one.  I’ve also become our expert copywriter (luckily I enjoy doing it!) and work hard to understand a client and produce quality copy for websites, blogs, email marketing and anything that’s needed.
